Doggy Planting Event A Success

Local residents came out in force on Saturday 31st March to help The Mersey Forest and Parks Rangers from Sefton Council plant over 500 small trees at the Dogtrack Green space in Seaforth Sefton.

The event kicked off early and as planting started even passers by got involved with the planting.By 2 p.m. all the trees had been planted and some residents were turned away.

It is now hoped to follow up the planting with wildflower sowing in the coming weeks to complete the effect of creating a copse planting feature and woodland walk.

Tom Sullivan of Seaforth Residents Action Group said 'getting local children involved in events like this and e.g. the christmas tree decorating in nearby Bowersdale Park is very important for community morale and shows what can be done with a little joint effort'

Ben Greenaway of The Mersey Forest said 'This is another successful planting as part of The Big Tree Plant across Merseyside where we have now planted over 15,000 sapling trees.Creating green spaces where people can get away from inner city life is an important aspect of our work'.

Planting Event - A chance for local residents to do their bit for The Big Tree Plant

You are invited to our forthcoming planting event in Seaforth.All welcome.Come along on 31st March 2012 to plant small trees to create copses across The Doggy green space.Wildflowers will also be planed by local school children to create a pleasant walking environment for all residents of Sefton and the local area.

80 New street and green space trees planted in Seaforth

The Mersey Forest has been working with Sefton Council's Parks and Green Spaces team to consult local residents around south Seaforth on improvements to local green spaces and the planting of residential streets with ornamental flowering trees. Residents were asked if they wanted a tree, if so would they water it.They were also given the opportunity to choose the type of tree and its location near their property.

Many residents said yes! The Green Spaces officers then arranged for a contract to be drawn up to plant the trees with protective green plasticoated guards.

Now 80 more trees have been planted on Verdi St, Caradoc St, Seaforth Rd and Church Rd around the 'Doggy' Green space.

Tree Lined Streets For Seaforth !

30 new street trees were planted along the shopping and residential areas on Seaforth Rd between the railway station and the Caradoc Public House.

At the request of local residents groups and residents and businesses who chose what trees were planted and where, The Mersey Forest helped Sefton Council's Trees and Woodlands Team achieve part of what has become a rejuvination of the street environment across many parts of the borough.

First pits dug in Seaforth

Today, contrators dug their first tree pit in what promises to be a succesful tree planting along Seaforth Rd.

Tree locations Marked Up

30 new tree locations have been marked up on the pavements by Sefton Council's Trees and Woodlands Team staff.

Tom Sullivan from the Seaforth Residents Action Group helped the Green Streets Team drop information leaflets through the letter boxes of residents and businesses along Seaforth Rd giving residents an opportunity to make any comments on the final locations of tree pits.

Tom Sullivan said 'after all the hard work the community is looking forward to seeing the trees in the ground at last!'

Local residents and schools will be holding a series of events to mark the planting of the trees this spring - watch this space!

Latest News! Seaforth Residents listen up? get involved!

launched their Canal Project on the Leeds Liverpool canal earlier this year and concluded the project in September with a Canal boat parade to Bank Hall and a conference on Urbanism , How to make a Happy City.They set up a space in the Stella Precinct to talk to local residents.
