Planting Day Sees Local Residents Turn out in Droves

Local residents of Seaforth turned out to assist Sefton Council and The Mersey Forest plant over 400 trees to complete copse woodland planting on the Dogtrack Recreation Ground in Seaforth south Sefton.

Assisted by the Parks Ranger and members of the Seaforth Residents Action Group The Mersey Forest's Green Streets Coordinator said:

 "today has showed the power of community action.We have completed the task in good time and have been able to appeal to young and old alike.This shows the drive and commitment local people have to improving their neighbourhood for the better".

  
   Young people and volunteer staff from the Caradoc youth club that meet on Monday  
   afternoon/evenings came across to help from the Church Hall building on
   Caradoc Rd nearby.

   Small woodland tree species such as Oak, Field Maple,Hawthorn,Alder were planted as
    well as Dogwood and Rose.

  The latest plantings were funded by Defra as part of The Big Tree Plant and part funded 
   through The Department of Transport through Merseyside's Local Sustainable Transport
   Fund operated by Mersey Travel and five local authorities across Merseyside including  
   Sefton Council.

Residents and Families Invited to Plant Trees on The Doggy

This Saturday 20th April 11.00a.m. till 2.30 p.m. The Mersey Forest will be helping local residents and families to further brighten the local park by continuing to plant small woodland trees to finish off the work that was done last year.

All are welcome so come on down and look for the Mersey Forest flag that will be flying between Church Rd and Verdi St.

We will provide all the spades and trees for planting and are being assisted by The Seaforth Residents Action Group.
